Latin America: Alessandro Teixeira, Head of ApexBrazil and WAIPA
Published:  August 12, 2008

Brazil compounded its position as Latin America’s top investment destination in 2007, with a leap of almost 84% in FDI on the previous year.

Brazil won a $34.6bn share of Latin America’s $106bn incoming investment for 2007, making it the most significant period of growth in FDI that Brazil has ever seen.

At the helm of Brazil’s investment promotion agency ApexBrazil, Alessandro Teixeira has been widely credited for helping to boost Brazil’s FDI to such a spectacular extent.

Mr Teixeira has also worked hard at changing global perceptions of Brazil’s business environment, which culminated in the award of a number of key investment ratings this year by global credit rating agencies.

Fitch Ratings, Standard & Poor’s and Canadian rating agency DBRS now consider Brazil a safe investment destination thanks to its more stable economy.

At the age of 34, Mr Teixeira’s profile is very much in line with the young and dynamic economy that he represents to the world.

And following his success as chief executive of ApexBrazil, Mr Teixeira was this year inaugurated as head of the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA) through which he is expected to impart the same expertise that has made the Brazilian model so successful, to the rest of the world.

It is perhaps fitting that the head of WAIPA should be a representative of one of the world’s powerhouse emerging economies, showing the more mature economies that they still have a lot to learn.
