Foreign Direct Investment (fDi)

Chicago wins the accolade of US City of the Future and Texas is named US State of the Future by fDi’s judges. Karen E Thuermer reports on the strengths of these and the category winners in this first annual contest.

In the second and final round of the quest to find the US Cities and States of the Future 2005/06, fDi announces the overall winners and the cities and states that shine out in specific categories.

Chicago is the overall winner in the city category and Texas takes the crown as US State of the Future.

Boston takes second place in the city category and New York City takes third place. New York State comes in one point behind Texas in the state category, giving the Lone Star State a run for its ranking. Virginia comes in third.

                                   State: Alabama, Iowa and Texas

Best human resources: City: Boston and Cambridge

Best IT and telecoms: City: Chicago
                                       State: Connecticut

Best quality of life: City: Boston
                                   State: Maine

Best FDI promotion strategy:  City: Chicago
